From January 30 to February 1, Lviv hosted the Winter Ukrainian Triathlon (Aquathlon) Championships, an event that traditionally brings together the country’s strongest young athletes. The aquathlon format — combining swimming and running — proved to be a key stage of winter preparation and offered an important snapshot of the current readiness of Ukraine’s national team reserve.

Over the same three days, Lviv also staged the Winter Ukrainian Championships for Juniors and Youths of Age Group “B”, once again attracting the nation’s leading emerging talents. The aquathlon races served as a meaningful benchmark midway through the winter season, allowing coaches and selectors to assess both physical condition and competitive sharpness.

In addition, the Ukrainian Cup was contested among boys and girls from the younger age categories. Together with the championship races, the event drew nearly 250 participants, a figure that has become a hallmark of national competitions at this level.

Juniors

In the junior men’s race, Arsen Adamov (Poltava region) delivered a commanding performance, posting the fastest combined time and successfully defending his lead after the swim. Matvii Malysh (Dnipropetrovsk region) crossed the line in second place, while Markiyan Harmatii (Lviv region) claimed bronze, showing impressive consistency across both segments of the course.

The junior women’s race was won by Dana Soroka (Lviv region), who set a strong tempo already in the pool and maintained the pace of the fastest runner inside the indoor arena. Amina Marchenko (Cherkasy region) secured the silver medal, while Mariia Ivashchenko (Poltava region) completed the podium in third place.

Youths — Age Group “B”

Competition was equally intense among the boys of age group “B”. Victory went to Ostap Cheipesh (Lviv region), who made the decisive move on the run. His regional teammates Dmytro Kardash and Ostap Varha followed closely behind, taking second and third places respectively and giving Lviv region a clean sweep of the podium.

In the girls’ race of age group “B”, Dariia Zadera (Cherkasy region) emerged victorious, displaying the most balanced performance between swimming and running. She was joined on the podium by fellow Cherkasy athletes Polina Taran in second place and Maryna Koshel in third, meaning the entire podium was claimed by representatives of the Cherkasy region.

Ukrainian Cup (Aquathlon)

The Ukrainian Cup aquathlon races in age groups C, D and E attracted the largest fields of the weekend, with extremely tight battles for podium positions. The depth of competition in each category once again underlined the Ukrainian Cup’s vital role in developing future juniors and national team candidates.

In age group C, the Ukrainian Cup titles were claimed by Oleksandra Poddubna and Mykola Khadzhyohlo, both representing the Odesa region. Among the boys, Maksym Baik (Lviv region) and Odesa’s Artem Tupalo secured the remaining podium places, while in the girls’ race the silver and bronze medals went to Dariia Zavalin and Kateryna Stetskovych, both from the Lviv region.

In age group D, the winners were Alisa Andriiets (Lviv region) and Myron Istomin (Odesa region). The boys’ podium was completed by Odesa athletes Dominik Panteleiev and Tymofii Chub, while the girls’ silver and bronze medals were claimed by Marharyta Sviatokum and Yelyzaveta Davydenko, both representing the Odesa region.

In the youngest category, age group E, Sofiia Liashko (Kyiv) and Yakiv Dondov (Odesa region) took the Ukrainian Cup victories. The boys’ podium was rounded out by Onufrii Kuzmenko (Odesa region) and Darii Cheipesh (Lviv region), while Varvara Chornenko (Cherkasy region) and Kamila Oliinyk (Odesa region) finished second and third respectively in the girls’ race.
