Ukrainian triathletes were in action on two international fronts last weekend, competing at the Europe Triathlon Championships in Tarragona, Spain, and the Balkan Regional Championships.

Vitalii Vorontsov, Daryna Moskalenko and Yeva Soroka represented Ukraine at the European Championships over the standard-distance format. For Moskalenko, it was her third appearance at the distance, with a career-best 21st place recorded in Vichy in 2024. Soroka made only her second start, having debuted in Istanbul in 2025, while Vorontsov lined up for his fourth European Championships appearance, excluding his participation at the European Games in Krakow.

Vorontsov’s best continental result remains 16th place in Madrid in 2023. In Tarragona, the Ukrainian crossed the finish line in 48th position, while Moskalenko and Soroka were unable to complete the race.

The European Championships served as another important step in the athletes’ Olympic qualification campaigns, with their next challenge coming at the World Cup in Hungary. Results

Shevchenko Scores Valuable Ranking Points at Balkan Championships

At the same time, the Balkan Regional Championships brought together athletes from member federations of the Balkan Triathlon Association, including Ukraine.

Ivan Shevchenko and Stanislav Krylov represented the Ukrainian elite squad. Both athletes exited the swim approximately one minute behind the leaders and continued the race within the chase groups.

Shevchenko delivered a solid all-around performance, recording the 20th-fastest bike split before completing the run in 17:15. He crossed the line in 22nd place and earned 29 World Triathlon ranking points.

The result propelled Shevchenko 142 places up the world rankings to 874th overall. His next international appearance is scheduled for the World Triathlon Development Cup in Gallipoli.

For Krylov, the race marked an important milestone as his elite-level debut. The young Ukrainian finished 45th and gained valuable international experience against a competitive field. Results

The win further strengthens Tsivkovskyi’s status as one of Ukraine’s most promising young triathletes and adds another successful chapter to an impressive 2026 season.

With World Cups, Development Cups and further championship events still ahead, Ukraine’s athletes continue to gain valuable experience and ranking points on the international stage.
