Zhytomyr hosted a major national triathlon event, bringing together athletes across a wide range of age categories — from children and youth competitors to senior athletes. The Ukrainian Indoor Triathlon Championship and the Ukrainian Team Championship among sports schools, Olympic reserve schools and high-performance sports schools featured 88 men and 38 women.
More than 40 teams also competed in the Ukrainian Indoor Triathlon Relay Championship. Taking into account the Children’s League races, where over 100 young athletes took part, the Zhytomyr triathlon event became a major challenge for the organisers and judging panel — one they handled at the highest level.
A key feature of the competition was its combined format: the swim took place in a pool, while the bike and run segments were held outdoors. This format, together with tight results after the swim, added extra dynamics to the races and kept the battle alive until the final metres.
The women’s race was fast from the opening metres in the pool. Close swim times formed an early lead group, but it was the bike segment that helped identify the main contenders for victory. Sofiia Pryima of Zaporizhzhia region moved into the lead and went on to win, crossing the finish line with an advantage of almost two minutes over second place. This weekend, Pryima will represent Ukraine at the Asia Cup in Subic Bay.
