From June 20 to 29, the Spanish city of Pontevedra transformed into the global epicenter of multisport, hosting six World Championship events—duathlon, cross triathlon, cross duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike, and long-distance triathlon.
The picturesque landscapes of Pontevedra set the perfect scene, with races unfolding along the iconic Los Tirantes Bridge, the Lerez River, and the stunning trails of the Pontillón do Castro natural park in Verducido.
Sofiya Pryyma among the world’s best in cross disciplines
In the demanding cross triathlon, Pryyma swam 15:10—trailing the leaders by 1:15—but held strong on the mountain bike and closed the run in 35:06 to claim 10th place, earning World Triathlon ranking points. In the cross duathlon, she surged from 12th after the first run into the top 5 on the bike and ultimately finished 4th overall.
Following back-to-back 7th-place finishes at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023, Pryyma once again confirms her place among the elite of cross multisport.
Aquathlon Worlds: Levkovska and Bezlepkin climb the rankings
On June 27, Ukraine’s Ksenia Levkovska emerged from the Lerez River in 8th place, finishing the 5K run in 18:24 to secure 10th overall and another 202 points. She now joins fellow Ukrainians Pryyma, Moskalenko, and 2024 World Champion Maryna Kyryk in the global top tier.
Fedir Bezlepkin, a standout junior and European silver medalist, stepped into the elite field and finished 22nd, earning 81 points. Despite an earlier deficit in the swim, he charged through the field on the run to take 4th place in the junior standings—making him the current #1 Ukrainian in the World Aquathlon Rankings among men.
Long Distance Triathlon & Aquabike: Ukrainian history made
June 29 marked the grand finale: 3 km swim, 120 km bike, and 30 km run. Anton Blokhin placed 16th in his long-distance debut. Rostyslav Pevtsov, in the process of transferring national representation from Azerbaijan to Ukraine, finished 9th in the elite field.
In age group racing, Valentyn Starosta placed 5th in the 40–44 AG, improving on his 12th place from 2023.
But the biggest story came from the Aquabike World Championship. Igor Franko dominated both disciplines to claim the World Title in the 30–34 AG, becoming the first Ukrainian athlete ever to win gold in this event. Teammate Serhii Novozhilov added a 7th-place finish in the 35–39 AG.
