For the first time in history, Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region welcomed the National Triathlon Championships. Held in the village of Kamianytsia, the event featured the Ukrainian Sprint Triathlon Championships across multiple age groups, as well as the Mixed Relay (2×2) National Championships for elites and the Junior Mixed Relay Championships.

Athletes raced over the sprint-distance format of 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, with the top five overall finishers earning valuable World Triathlon ranking points.

Soroka Produces the Fastest Run to Take Women’s Title

The women’s race unfolded as a fascinating battle between the strongest swimmer, the fastest cyclist and the quickest runner of the day.

Dana Soroka (Lviv Region) controlled the swim from the opening meters and exited the water first, once again showcasing the swim strength she has consistently displayed on the international circuit. Maryna Kyryk (Kyiv) impressed in her season debut, leaving the water second ahead of a tightly packed chase group that included Yeva Soroka, Sofiya Pryyma, Daryna Moskalenko, Gloria Kershkova, Sofiia Bondarenko, Mariia Ivashchenko and Margaryta Menshykova.

The bike leg belonged to Sofiya Pryima. The Zaporizhzhia athlete, whose cycling strength has repeatedly put her among the leaders at Asia Triathlon Cup events this season, quickly bridged to the front and built an advantage of nearly 30 seconds over the Soroka sisters before T2.

But the decisive move came on the run.

Even a 16:30 pace over 5km from the race leaders proved insufficient to hold off Yeva Soroka. The Lviv athlete steadily erased the gap before overtaking Pryyma to claim the national title with the fastest run split of the day in 15:58.

Pryima secured the silver medal, while Dana Soroka completed the podium in third. Daryna Moskalenko and Sofia Bondarenko rounded out the top five.

Among the age-group championships, Yeva Soroka also claimed the U23 title, Danna Soroka won the junior women’s race, while Amina Marchenko took victory in the Youth A category.

Vorontsov Dominates Men’s Race

The men’s race followed a similar tactical pattern.

Maksym Bondar (Kyiv) led the field out of the swim, with Markiian Harmatii, Oleksii Astafiev-Kulish, Vitalii Vorontsov, Yehor Fokov, Arsen Adamov, Zakhar Tsivkovskyi, Ivan Shevchenko, Illia Honcharuk, Fedir Bezlepkin and Serhii Kostenko forming the main chase group.

During the bike leg, Vitalii Vorontsov, Zakhar Tsivkovskyi, Oleksii Astafiev-Kulish and Ivan Shevchenko broke clear, creating enough separation to contest the medals among themselves.

Vorontsov proved strongest over the final 5km, securing the Ukrainian title ahead of Tsivkovskyi and Astafiev-Kulish. Shevchenko finished fourth, while Honcharuk won the battle for fifth after holding off Serhii Kostenko and Arsen Adamov.

Maksym Nesvat claimed the U23 men’s title, Illia Honcharuk won the junior championship, and Zakhar Tsivkovskyi added another victory by taking the Youth A category.

Mixed Relay Champions Crowned

In the Elite Mixed Relay (2×2), Kyiv captured the national title thanks to Daryna Moskalenko and Vitalii Vorontsov. Zaporizhzhia Region, represented by Sofia Pryima and Serhii Kostenko, finished second, while Danna Soroka and Markiian Harmatii secured bronze for Lviv Region.

The Junior Mixed Relay title went to Zhytomyr Region-2, ahead of Cherkasy Region, with Zhytomyr Region-1 completing the podium.

The championships marked a historic milestone for Ukrainian triathlon, as Zakarpattia successfully hosted the country’s premier national event for the first time, bringing together the nation’s leading elite and developing athletes in one of Ukraine’s newest triathlon venues. Results
