Cherkasy hosted the Ukrainian Aquathlon Championships, bringing together 250 athletes from across the country — from established national-team members to the next generation of emerging talent.
In the men’s race, Kyiv’s Mykyta Bondar seized control in the water, leading the field out of the swim with the fastest split of the day — 6:11. That early advantage ultimately proved decisive in the battle for the national title.
Although Illia Honcharuk of Zhytomyr Region produced the fastest run among the leading contenders, clocking 8:24, he was unable to erase the full deficit. Experienced Zaporizhzhia triathlete Valentyn Mariievskyi claimed the bronze medal after spending much of the race among the podium contenders and crossing the line 17 seconds behind the winner.
Yarema Babish and Yehor Fokov finished just outside the medals, remaining in podium contention deep into the second half of the run. The top ten was completed by Stanislav Krylov, Maksym Usanin, Matvii Malysh, Denys Snesar and the youngest athlete in the leading group, Ihor Kyrylovych, born in 2010, who delivered an impressive performance against senior competition.
In the women’s race, Zaporizhzhia representatives Maryna Sokolova and Olesia Marchenko set the pace in the swim, but the championship was ultimately decided on the run.
Future champion Marharyta Menshykova of Donetsk Region was not the fastest athlete in the water, yet she steadily closed the gap once the race moved onto land. With the strongest overall combination across the two disciplines, she powered to a convincing national title.
The experienced Olesia Marchenko secured silver, finishing just over 20 seconds behind the winner. Maryna Sokolova, who recorded the fastest swim among the medallists, took bronze after surrendering part of her early advantage on the closing run.
One of the standout performances came from 2010-born Arina Hryban of Zhytomyr Region. The young athlete finished fourth overall, beating several far more experienced competitors. Odesa’s Valeriia Lukianenko completed the top five.
The women’s top ten also featured Yelyzaveta Sytnyk, Kateryna Kyrylovych, Daria Berezhna, Anastasiia Snesar and Diana Mamedova.
Among the U23 men, Yarema Babish of Lviv Region took the title. Yehor Fokov of Dnipropetrovsk Region earned silver. He trailed Babish by just over nine seconds after the swim and successfully defended second place on the run.
The bronze medal went to Maksym Usanin of Cherkasy Region.
In the women’s U23 competition, victory went to Cherkasy Region’s Daria Berezhna, while Sofiia Parasotchenko of Lviv claimed the silver medal.
The junior men’s title came down to Mykyta Bondar and Illia Honcharuk, who also occupied the top two positions in the overall men’s standings.
Kyiv’s Mykyta Bondar took gold, with Illia Honcharuk of Zhytomyr Region earning silver. Stanislav Krylov of Donetsk Region completed the podium with bronze.
Among the junior women, Anastasiia Snesar of Cherkasy Region became Ukrainian champion. She trailed her leading rivals after the swim, but a powerful run allowed her to climb through the field and take victory.
Diana Mamedova of Dnipropetrovsk Region secured silver, while Sofiia Husarevych of Zhytomyr Region finished third.
Arina Hryban of Zhytomyr Region claimed the Ukrainian title with a composed and confident performance. Valeriia Lukianenko of Odesa Region took silver, while Yelyzaveta Sytnyk of Zhytomyr Region earned bronze.
Ihor Kyrylovych of Zhytomyr Region took victory. Maksym Ostryi of Cherkasy Region finished second, with Daniil Uminskyi of Zhytomyr Region completing the podium.
Dariia Zadera of Cherkasy Region emerged victorious after holding off her closest rivals in the battle for gold. Polina Taran, also representing Cherkasy Region, took second place, while Odesa Region’s Alisa Kliosova claimed bronze.
Kyiv’s Makar Yestremskyi became champion. Ostap Cheipesh of Lviv Region earned silver, and Yaroslav Yunusov of Zhytomyr Region finished third.
This Group was once again the largest category of the championships.
Alisa Bohdanova of Odesa Region claimed victory after producing a strong run to move clear of her rivals. Her regional teammate Oleksandra Poddubna took silver, while Yeva Afanasieva of Cherkasy Region secured bronze.
Cherkasy Region’s Oleksandr Semenko took the title. He was already among the leaders after the swim and never allowed his rivals to close the gap.
Mykhailo Bozhko of Zhytomyr Region finished second, while Artem Tupalo of Odesa Region took bronze.
Marharyta Sviatokum of Odesa Region claimed the title. Alisa Andriiets of Lviv Region won silver, with Yelyzaveta Davidenko of Odesa Region completing the podium.
Odesa Region’s Myron Istomin delivered the strongest performance. Dominik Panteleiev, also representing Odesa Region, took second place, while Danylo Siutkin of Cherkasy Region finished third.
The youngest competitors also produced some of the most spirited racing of the championships.
Vlada Kolesnyk of Zhytomyr Region took victory. Milana Cherdintseva of Odesa Region secured silver, while Kyiv’s Sofiia Liashko earned bronze.
Odesa Region’s Yakiv Dondov delivered another assured performance to take the win. Mark Khaletskyi, also representing Odesa Region, finished second, while Darii Cheipesh of Lviv Region completed the podium.
One of the most spectacular events on the programme was the adult 2×2 mixed relay, in which each athlete completed two legs of 200m swimming and 1km running.
Victory went to the Zaporizhzhia Region team of Olesia Marchenko and Valentyn Mariievskyi. The pair established a high tempo from the opening stages and held firm throughout, completing the race in 28:37.
Their consistency across all four relay legs proved decisive, with both athletes producing some of the fastest splits of the day.
The silver medals went to Donetsk Region, represented by Marharyta Menshykova and Stanislav Krylov. They finished 28 seconds behind the winners in 29:05. Menshykova gave the team a rapid start, while Krylov protected their position over his two legs and prevented their closest challengers from moving past.
The hosts from Cherkasy-1, represented by Dariia Zadera and Maksym Ostryi, secured bronze in 29:25, finishing just 20 seconds behind the silver medallists.
The consistency of both athletes allowed Cherkasy to hold on to the final podium position by less than half a minute.
Just outside the medals, Cherkasy-2 — Daria Berezhna and Maksym Usanin — finished only 11 seconds behind the bronze medallists. Zhytomyr-1, represented by Kateryna Kyrylovych and Illia Honcharuk, took fifth, while another Zaporizhzhia Region pairing, Maryna Sokolova and Roman Chuprynin, finished sixth.
The Cherkasy-1 team of Dariia Zadera and Maksym Ostryi took victory after producing a consistent performance across all four relay legs. The hosts finished in 29:25 and maintained control of the race on their way to gold.
The silver medals went to Valeriia Lukianenko and Mykola Domoshchei of Odesa Region, who finished just 20 seconds behind in 29:45.
Bronze was claimed by Zhytomyr-1, represented by Arina Hryban and Ihor Kyrylovych, in 29:58.
A confident performance carried Cherkasy-1 to victory, with Polina Taran and Zakhar Horenko stopping the clock at 31:14 after controlling the race from start to finish.
The silver medals went to Maryna Koshel and Yevhen Cherednichenko of Cherkasy-3, who finished 30 seconds behind the winners.
The Odesa Region pairing of Alisa Kliosova and Yurii Lobieiev took bronze in 31:46.
Cherkasy-1, represented by Yeva Afanasieva and Oleksandr Semenko, claimed victory in the Age Group C relay.
The winners completed the 1×1 format of 50m swimming and 250m running in a combined time of 8:02.3.
The Odesa Region team of Alisa Bohdanova and Artem Tupalo finished just seven seconds behind to take silver in 8:09.5.
Bronze went to Zhytomyr-1, represented by Anastasiia Pylypchuk and Mykhailo Bozhko, who crossed the line in 8:15.0.
In the youngest relay category, the Ukrainian title went to Odesa Region-1, represented by Marharyta Sviatokum and Dominik Panteleiev.
They claimed a convincing victory in 4:18.0, building on their strong performances in the individual competitions.
The silver medals went to Odesa-3, represented by Polina Konovalova and Matvii Naumenko, in 4:26.0.
The bronze medals were secured by Cherkasy-1, with Diana Zaloha and Danylo Siutkin completing the race in 4:33.0.
