Ukrainians collect World Ranking points at the Asia Triathlon Cup in Tam Chuc

The Asia Triathlon Cup in Vietnam brought together another competitive international field, with Ukraine represented by Vitalii Vorontsov, Serhii Kostenko and Sofiya Pryyma.

In the men’s race, the battle unfolded between two main packs separated by roughly twenty seconds, while in the women’s event a front group of 13 athletes came together during the bike leg.

Sofiya Pryyma exited the swim in 14th place, trailing the leader by 48 seconds. The Ukrainian then produced the fastest bike split of the race, closing the gap and arriving in T2 with the lead group. Up against 12 rivals on the run, Pryyma secured an impressive fifth-place finish, climbing 105 positions in the World Triathlon rankings to move into 286th place globally.

In the men’s event, Vitalii Vorontsov and Serhii Kostenko spent the race chasing the leaders from the pursuit groups. Vorontsov came out of the water in 28th place, 35 seconds down, while Kostenko exited 38th, 58 seconds behind the race leader. Vitalii stayed in the first chase pack and delivered the ninth-fastest bike split, whereas Serhii worked through the second group and recorded the 44th-best bike time.

Vorontsov then produced the fourth-fastest run split of the day to finish seventh overall. The result earned him 166 World Ranking points and allowed him to remain inside the world top 300, moving to 282nd place. Kostenko clocked the 24th-fastest run and managed to finish inside the points-paying positions in 34th place, collecting 20 ranking points. The performance lifted him 35 spots to 533rd in the world rankings. Final results.

Following the Tam Chuc Asia Cup, Vorontsov and Pryyma now stand as Ukraine’s highest-ranked triathletes in the World Triathlon rankings. Sofiya, Vitalii and Serhii will continue their Asian campaign this weekend at the Asia Cup in Lianyungang, China.

Meanwhile, in Olsztyn, Poland, Oleksii Astafiev-Kulish and Yevha Soroka will line up in the elite races. The junior events will feature Illia Honcharuk, Stanislav Krylov, Markiian Harmatii, Matvii Malysh, Zakhar Tsivkovskyi and Arsen Adamov, while Dana Soroka, Mariia Ivashchenko and Amina Marchenko will represent Ukraine in the junior women’s field.
